gone fishin?

So it would appear that I have been... absent? It's kind of a crazy assumption to think that you all have been checking back here to see what's up with Whimsy - but I do hope you have, and I'm very sorry that it's taken me this long to post.

Thank you so much for all the emails of support and congratulations. I'm very happy to report that we're doing well. My mom and dad left this morning after a week of very helpful (and needed) support. So Chip and I are doing this thing ourselves now, with Alice's help, of course. To keep you interested, I owe you the following (and this is the type of IOU that I'm going to honor, darn it):

- Bean's birth story (including highlights of not one but TWO spinal blocks because the first one didn't take, Chip tricked out in white paper jumpsuit pajamas and blue shoe covers -very sexy-, and Alice's amazing appearance in the OR)

- The two hour feeding schedule we're on to get Alice to gain some weight already (6 pounds is TINY, yo)

- Our new found fear of GIGANTOR BABIES

- The bottle of prune juice that has been residing in our fridge for the past week (helpful, but that's it)

- Alice's helpful induction of Chip into the land of baby poo and pee (he has successfully completed five diapers to date, including some fairly heinous specimens - and yes, he has indeed gotten poo material on his person and he has lived to tell the tale)

- How amazing and wonderful it is to be a mother

There's more, plenty more. They tell me the crying is normal... I think I've only gone through one box of kleenex today (thanks to Emily for giving me four more boxes). I've never been so happy on so little sleep.

Do babies heads always smell that good?

Oh, dear Whimsy!! I've been thinking about you, Chip and Alice so much--but figured you've been very busy recuperating and loving your new little Alice. It's so great to hear from you! Your post totally made me laugh and smile from ear to ear--motherhood is wonderful!!

Wooo!!! So exciting and happy! Congrats, again. Um, yes. Gigantor babies should be feared.

I can't wait to hear the birth story and see some more pics (hint, hint). :)

And "gigantor babies" made me laugh.

Oh YAY! I've been WAITING!

I KNOW on the gigantor babies! AD was 5 lbs 3 oz at birth and all the other babies at the hospital with us looked HUGE.

We did the 2 hour feedings thing for a while too. She was 5th percentile in height/weight for the first 2 months and then she caught right up. You can do it sweet Alice!

Hooray! I look forward to hearing about all the IOU's you mentioned! I'm better about checking blogs now, so I won't miss it! :)

The crying IS normal for a little while... but be sure to be aware of the symptoms of postpartum depression. Some crying is normal... but if it gets worse... it could be a problem! Just be aware... :)

Hahaha... Gigantor babies... they are cute! I'm okay with them as long as they are not that size when they are born, you know?

Welcome back. It sounds like you're adjusting and going thru the norms of new baby. I had a couple of those 6 lbder babies. The feeding every 2 hours gets really tiring but they eventually put the weight on and sleep longer. If you need some help I'm a phone call away... even if it's to let you sleep... I'm experienced and I'm cheap.

Thats funny because my sister called her baby a gigantor baby...she had it last month, and it was 9lbs 10oz. I'm glad you're recuperating, I know c-sections can be hard, but at least its not scary going to the bathroom. That was my new experience the second time around.

Baby heads are so yummy, aren't they? Someone told me it's love pheromones.

Crying = totally normal. I cry SO MUCH after a baby! SO MUCH!

I miss you!!!

she wailed in her most dramatic pregnant hormonal voice.

Please tell the stories and also post some pictures of that perfect baby girl...

know that you are not crying alone. have been weepy weepy weepy for the past 2 days.

I miss you!!!

she wailed again, this time throwing her head down on her desk with enough force to draw coworkers around her cubical to check for brain damage.

Whimsy-
It's good to know you have survived the first week and a half of motherhood. I'm just two weeks away and fear it's arrival. Congratulations again! Do post some pictures of little Alice.
