the awesome/not awesome of taking sleepy cold medicine at night

.

One of the best things about writing a post saying that I've been busy and I'm still busy and it might be a little bit before I write again is that, inevitably, I end up writing the very next day. Every time.

So last night* I took some sleepy cold medicine. Let's not talk about why because I am refusing to even mention the Sick word for fear that my body will just give up, wave the white flag, and then succumb to a constant couch bound shivering mass. So instead let's just say that I took some cold medicine last night for some odd reason.

This morning has me thinking about the pros and cons of that action, as evidenced by my direct experience. Without further delay, I present a return to AWESOME / NOT AWESOME, via sleepy cold medicine, all in REAL TIME, because I am fancy. And also loopy.

Awesome:
Sleep! Sleep sleep sleepy deepy schlepy sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

Not awesome:
It is 5am? No?
7am? No?
You're telling me it's 8am and I'm still blurry-eyed and mumbly?!

Awesome:
Rested.

Not awesome:
Rested but feels very-much-like-a-lingering sweater over my enter body, including eyes/ears/mouth/nose. What time is it again?

Awesome:
No more fiery throat of brimstone and death!

Not awesome:
I have given Bean the following for "breakfast" since I can't even be bothered to know what time it is exactly: wheat pretzels, chips, twisty pretzels, Special K cereal. They are all the very similar shade of BROWN, and each of them has fit nicely in an easily-ported-around-the-house CUP. I'm not sure she's even seen a slip of milk in several days.

Awesome:
Have I mentioned the sleep? The glorious, so desperately needed sleep?

Not awesome:
My ability to even care about things that should be dealt with has dwindled to the following: if I can be sitting down while doing it, and if it involves as little thinking/talking as possible. To wit: in the last several minutes Bean has spilled her brown food du jour and I have merely bent down, whisked the floor-infected bits to the side (for sweeping at a later time) and then refilled the cup. Sleep-walker style.

Awesome:
If I can suspend my distant but still real irritation that I'm not doing anything of substance, it's a nice little ride, the not caring. I like feeling unaffected by the growing list of To Do's.

Not awesome:
Still. It's a REAL irritation. And my list isn't getting any shorter, nor are the ever-growing piles of brown food bits lining my walls getting any smaller. (Add "sweep and mop" to the list.)

Awesome:
I am so easily distracted! I can't be bothered to bother! About anything! Other than sitting here on my tushy and thinking longingly about the couch across the room. Mmmmmmm couch.

Not awesome:
Distracted! Yes! And there is a bathroom to clean! And emails to write! And phone calls to make! And --- Hey there's the couch over there and I think I also spy the comfy green blanket. Mmmmmmmm couch.

Whatcha got on your awesome/not awesome list today?

*And for accuracy's sake I will tell you that I did, indeed, write this post on Thursday morning(ish), but felt that I shouldn't burden you with thinking of this depth and breadth until Friday had properly rolled around.

You're welcome.

awesome / not awesome - the monday morning edition

So I had this funny post about Fergus ready to go up and it required photos and Blooger (I'm going to KEEP that typo because I am MAD at Blooger so there) - would NOT cooperate and let me upload photos. I tried for two hours and I'm more than a little cranky about it.

Instead, I give you the Monday Morning Edition of Awesome/Not Awesome because we haven't played that in a long while. I encourage you to join along. It's a catchy sort of game. I think.

And so...

Awesome: a brand new laptop from my NOT brand new husband (but we love him just the same and maybe even a smidgen more because: BRAND NEW LAPTOP).

Not Awesome: some very weird issue with Blooger and uploading photos and I have NO IDEA what's going on here so I'm blaming a combination of laptop/Blooger stupidity but it could be entirely Blooger's fault, I just don't know. (Are any of you having trouble uploading photos?) Either way, it's decidedly NOT awesome.

Awesome: on the Sneaky Little Peanut front, we're headed off to see an allergist with Bean this morning. And he's apparently one of the best pediatric allergists in the Northwest. Like, they wrote about him in a magazine.

Not Awesome: having to see an allergist at all. Because, you know, it's not so fun for the little tater tot. Our appointment, we've been told, may last up to two and a half HOURS. That's a lot of hours.

Awesome: it's my birthday week. And I love a good birthday week.

Not Awesome: stupid Blooger with the stupid lack of photo uploading goodness. I have OLD PHOTOS to share with you guys of past birthdays! And doesn't everyone LOVE an old grainy 1970's photo? Well, you won't be seeing anything until I can get this problem worked out. ...Or until I decide to get LESS lazy and just move the pictures to another computer and use that to see if it's a universal Blooger problem or just the lone problem of my lovely! new! shiny! laptop.

Awesome: week two of 30-day shred.

Not Awesome: I want to die.

Awesome: fabric! (See picture down to the right that WAS able to upload to Blooger last night, so hey! That's awesome!)

Not Awesome: there isn't a lot that's NOT about this bullet point except my lack of huge chunks of time to play with said fabric. And that's truly not a big downer when you think about it.

Awesome: YOU. Yes you. You are awesome. To come here each day and visit. To say hello. To share your stories. To tell me that I, little old furry lovable ME*, am awesome. So I unofficially declare, since we're all pictureless here at The Creamery right now, this to be DELURKING DAY. (Look at that little nugget of surprise!) So, you lurkers, you people who read-but-don't-comment, you people who like to hide in the shadows, you people who stop by to skim a post or two but don't feel compelled to comment, I now compel you to comment. With my vastly superior skills, I compel you to just say hi. Delurk. Just for today. If you want to only leave a little punctuation mark, I'm okay with that. Just let us know that you're out there.

And for those of you who feel like you'd like to do more, tell me what's on your Awesome/Not Awesome list. Go!

*name that reference, you Blooger Babes. It's a book that Bean has decided is in the LOVE camp and so I read it far too many times each day to keep my sanity.

mischief, hijinks, and other words for doing things that aren't recommended but still funny

The Alice Loo-Who, looking totally innocent. Just wait.

I think it's time to revisit the Awesome/Not Awesome game.

Awesome:
Alice's bare bum sitting on the scale at the doctor's office. Really: is there anything cuter than a bare baby bum? I don't think so.

Not awesome:
The screaming that came after Alice's shots. HATE THAT PART. (Alice isn't so fond of it either.)

Awesome:
Finding some very yummy smoked turkey on sale at the grocery store WITH a little sticky coupon on the lid for an additional $0.50 off.

Not awesome:
Later finding the little sticky coupon still stuck on the lid because you forgot to remind the grocery store clerk to actually use the coupon.

Awesome:
A very sweet husband stopping at Petco to buy the expensive Special-Indoor-Super-Duper-Hairball-Reduction-Extravaganza-And-By-The-Way-This-Food-Will-Also-Minimize-Your-Pores-And-Make-Your- Hair-Extra-Shiny-And-Gorgeous cat food.

Not awesome:
The cats having some kind of ridiculously explosive hairball puke-fest because they're eating the Outrageously-Expensive-Will-Magically-Make-You-Look-Ten-Years-Younger cat food.

Awesome:
Coming home to a clean house.

Not awesome:
A clean house with the exception of cat puke that is sitting forlornly in the front entryway. In the exact spot you just walked through.

Awesome:
Alice sleeping through the night until 7:00 a.m.

Not awesome:
Alice napping for a total of FIFTEEN MINUTES for the entire day. Yes, you hear me. Fifteen minutes. The entire day.

Awesome:
Finally getting to crawl into bed after a long and exhausting day.

Not awesome:
Stepping in yet more of the explosive cat puke.

Awesome:
Quiet.

Not awesome:

By the time she was finished, there were something like thirty garbage bags on the floor. To be honest, this was kinda awesome.

Awesome:
More quiet.

Not awesome:

That would be toilet paper in her hand. THE ENTIRE ROLL OF TOILET PAPER. How does a tiny person such as herself get from her bedroom to the bathroom, and completely unroll an ENTIRE roll of toilet paper in 15 seconds?

At least she looks guilty in this shot.

Your turn!

awesome / not awesome

When life gets to be a little too, um, complicated for me, I like to return to the simple things. Things like thinking of the pieces of my day in terms of awesome/not awesome. Let me explain the complicated rules.

You have something happen, like allowing the baby to nearly fall off the couch because you looked away (stupid, stupid) and you review it like this:

Voice inside Whimsy's head: Hmmm - awesome? Or not awesome?
- - - - - thinking - - - - -
Whimsy: I'm going to go with NOT awesome.

It's great because everything can be now sorted into these two groups.

Awesome: Tillamook cookie dough ice cream.

NOT awesome: The cheapie strawberry ice cream we bought on sale. Chip said it actually tastes "carbonated".

Awesome: Alice in a diaper.

NOT awesome: Alice's diaper leaking liquid pooey bits on my lap. And a couch cushion.

Awesome: Alice crawling. No really. And she does it ON HER FACE.

NOT awesome: When Alice crawls on her face onto the hardwood floor. You think I'm kidding? We don't kid with the awesome/not awesome game.

Awesome: The end of this day.

NOT awesome: The record-breaking HEAT that is continuing into the evening. I don't think sleep is going to come easy tonight.

Okay, now it's your turn to play. Give me at least one awesome/not awesome.
