secrets to long blog absences

I think the secret to being blog absent for a whole week is to come back with interesting stories. Or at least one.

I don't have any interesting stories to tell about last week, unless you count the one where I drove one wheel of our beloved Jeep Jefe off the curb of a terrible gas station and got stuck and had to call AAA and cried on the phone to the AAA dispatch lady, doing my best to convince her that she needed to send a tow truck RIGHT NOW because I was blocking a sidewalk and had a child in the car with me, who, incidentally had very little to do in her car seat because I thought it was going to be a quick trip to the library and the AAA lady turned out to be the nicest woman on the planet and she talked me down and got me to stop crying while we waited for Gary the tow truck driver to come rescue us a scant 20 minutes later all the while various passers-by were stopping and knocking on my window to ask if we needed help, my favorite would-be helper being the lady who laughed and said, "This is something I would do!" and then she offered us snacks. My favorite part of the story, besides the part where beloved Jefe was barely harmed, having landed on the frame - and Gary, tow-truck driver extraordinaire, pulled us back onto land using a little ramp he constructed with wood he carried in his truck---- my favorite favorite part was how Alice described it to Chip on the phone later, saying, in ALL CAPS, as 3-year-olds tend to do, "WE HIT A BIG BUMP, A HUGE BUMP, A GINORNOUS BUMP! BUT JEFE WAS OKAY!"

The other secret to being blog absent for a week is to promise lots of cool stuff to come.

I'm not sure I can really do that.

But I can promise this: more posts all week long. And the week after that. And the week after that.

Really. Truly.

Because BIG BUMPS notwithstanding, I miss you, my beautiful creamy Minions. I really do.

What have you been up to? Any near-miss (or real) car accidents? Tell us all the details. I will be sad if you hold back (or say nothing at all). I want to hear from you.

The lady who offered you snacks while making you feel better by saying that was something she would do is my new hero.

I haven't had any car accidents or even any real near-misses, but now I have jinxed myself and will probably die in a fiery ball of metal on my drive home. (Kidding! I will drive extra cautiously now.)

So glad you and Alice and Jefe are okay.

I've just been assuming you were recovering from the Week of Two Three Year Olds. I mean, REALLY.

(Hardly related, but dealing with car accidents... This isn't probably what you're going for.) I am thinking obsessively about a boy in Anneke's grade whose mother was killed in a car accident last weekend. She was 33, and it was an accident that was a fluke thing that could happen to absolutely anyone. It's terrifying. I only realized yesterday when I went searching for news information that Brad and I saw the accident. And then I had a dream last night that my mom and I were about to be in the exact same accident - We didn't say anything to each other, and I saw her just relax like there was nothing she could do, so I tried to too. And then I woke up like in a movie sequence, all inhaling really quickly. The whole idea just kills me. There is a lot of death going around right now.

This is me. The comment may not be thought provoking or intelligent, but I can at least say 'hi!' and 'I'm glad you're not going anywhere permanently.' Take your time and enjoy life too! :D

I'm glad everyone was okay! As far as what's going on with us... I just canned 7 quarts of asparagus. I think we'll save the rest to eat fresh.

I drove halfway home the other night with only my daytime lights on. Whoops. That could have been bad.

I've got Felix on the potty today. I'm determined he'll be out of diapers by the end of the summer. He has to - can't get into the preschool he's already registered in unless he's potty learned!

It's good to have you back; your absence has been felt far and wide.

As for us, we recently returned from a "Chevy Chase goes to Wally World" kind of family reunion. Mon morning I got notice we were being furloughed at work. And then my cell phone - my only source of phone service - dies - and its one of those fancy pantsy models that we got for a screaming deal, but now cannot afford to replace at the retail price. Oh, and then someone broke into our car this morning & stole expensive sunglasses. And our garage door opener. And possible our identities. I'd go on but I really think that that list is way too much "bummer bumpiness" for one poorly constructed, run-on-sentence-y paragraph.

At times like this, I wonder why we must languish under our very own personal "little black rain cloud". Thankfully, we have nuggets such as this one from Elder Cook that really hit to the heart of the matter... and give us hope. "I testify that the Atonement of Jesus Christ covers all of the trials and hardships that any of us will encounter in this life. At times when we may feel to say, “Hope you know, I had a hard time,” we can be assured that He is there and we are safe in His loving arms."

Hope you know, you are not alone. And hope that all gets better soon. We all need our daily dose of creamery goodness.
