v is for vocabulary

Everyone has it: a personal vocabulary that makes the conversations you have so precisely yours. Words you've made up, words you've changed, words that have different meanings--- so much so that a person on the outside just wouldn't get it.

I want to hear about some of your personal vocabulary, and I'll tell you a little bit about mine. Over the next few days, I'll be posting something momentous: The Laws of Cream. It's momentous because they are the whole reason this blog is called The Creamery. They quite literally define how I relate to the world.

But for starters, let's hear from you. Tell me about some of your personal vocab: words or phrases that you use, and what they mean.

Well you know mine!!! And the ones I've added are mostly 19th century terms and phrases that have fallen out of fashion. The Husband and I are trying to bring them back!

But I'm SO excited for the Laws of CREAM!!! Published on the INTERNET for the first time ever!!! I think you should include a disclaimer about how they are YOUR intellectual property and if anyone dares, DARES to plagiarize them you will not only SEEK to DAMAGE them, but you will also publicly SHAME them!

Laws of Cream! Fun!

I don't really make up words, but I think I sometimes forget that I'm a 27 year old adult. I use "super" to describe everything. Super cute, Super sucks, whatev. It's like I'm 15!!

YAY - the Laws of Cream, finally! :)

I say "awesome" way too much. Also: "Cripes!"

And way too many curse words, especially while driving. (But the other drivers totally deserve it.)

We call all liquids juice in my house. We say apparently too much. We didn't realize it till our 3 year daughter started saying it all the time. I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them right now.

Oh, this is a good topic. And I can't wait to read the Laws of Cream. Some of my vocab words: "kludge" (I think my grandma is attributed with originating this one in my family) is to clumsily assemble something or attempt to put something back together in an obvious and messy way. "Chafa", if I remember right, is Spanish for cheap, easily broken. "Fuche" (pronounced "foo-chee") is Spanish for stinky or gross. I know there are more, but can't think of any others right now.

We use the word "rice cooker". One day a relative burst out in the middle of one of those silent periods where nothing is being said and blurted out, "Rice cookers! We used to sell them by the dozen!!" And of course everybody laughed.

So now when anybody blurts out something totally not related to anything that was being discussed, we say, "Wow-that was a total 'rice cooker'".

We have oooh so many more words in our own very unique vocab.
